Review of Phil Collins "Hits"
One of the top solo artists of the
80's and 90's finally gives us his due with a worthy
greatest hits collection. Encompassing tracks from
his solo albums Face Value to Dance In The Light
and soundtrack work, . . .Hits is virtually a Billboard
Top 10 collection. Songs like "Another Day
In Paradise", "Sussudio", "Take
Me Home", and "One More Night", are
still staples of today's radio and TV airplay and
are so ingrained in our pop-music repertory, you'll
find yourself unconsciously singing along with them.
The highlight of this disc is the one new song,
"True Colors". Produced by Babyface and
featuring his performance with Sheila E, the song
which Cyndi Lauper covered, is given a nice upbeat
workout here, and it's not a carbon copy of Cyndi's
version. It's rare that a greatest hits package
lives up to it's billing, but . . .Hits delivers
the goods.
